The social media tool Facebook is basically a social networking site where online users can create profiles of themselves to share their photos, videos, post comments on those photos and videos and post links to news or other interesting content on the World Wide Web. A user can also chat with another user via the instant messaging service Facebook provides. The content that can be shared on Facebook can be made publicly accessible, or it can be shared only amongst friends once added. Facebook was created by its founder Mr. Mark Zuckerberg in 2004 while attending Harvard University in the United States.

I joined Facebook in 2009 with the means of networking with old friends and making new ones. I also enjoyed Facebook to search and different companies in were interested in such as Nike, Adidas, Puma etc. My favorite part of using Facebook was the instant messaging service on the website. I could communicate with friends and family without wasting money on a phone call. This really helped with communicating with people outside if Trinidad and Tobago. In early 2017 I started to get requests from random people I didn’t even know from other countries. I continued to decline the “friend requests” on a regular but they persisted.

I even received messages in my Facebook inbox of an Arabic guy trying to communicate with me. One day I realized that I couldn’t have logged in my Facebook account through my phone, I even tried to on my laptop but nothing worked. I then asked my friend to see of my profile was still active. He then said that some Arabic person stole my account. The person changed my info into his language and took my pictures to use as his own. I even got complaints from friends saying that the same person called and messaged them on Facebook to curse them. I tried to let Facebook know that my identity was stolen, I went through all the steps to make sure that the profile was to be deactivated but nothing happened. This is the reason that I will never use Facebook again due to its poor security on its website.
